Five Ways To Give Your Look, Rock Star Appeal

Trying to transform your day-wear to night, can create some challenges, you might not anticipate. But in the words of the ultimate rocker James Brown, GET ON UP, and apply some of these crafty but simple tips, I've compiled below. If you ever feel your looks are too predictable and need a little punch, applying one or more of these easy guidelines, will add a little edge to your getup!

   1.       Wear a Biker Jacket
A biker jacket should be a staple in your wardrobe arsenal for many reasons. It’s usually lightweight but warm enough to wear on chillier days and easy to add layers underneath, if it’s really cold. Also who can resist that badass allure, that it will give you?

   2.       Rock your Accessories Like a Rock Star
If you’ve ever seen throw back images of Janice Joplin, and Jimmie Hendrix than you know what I mean. A ring on each finger, layered necklaces, or even a statement scarf will give your look the pop it needs to add more drama to your ensemble.

  3.       Slide into your Best Skinnies
Skin tight, just right, should be your motto, for finding the perfect pair of skinnies. You can go James Dean, and cuff them at the hem or Wiz Khalifa straight, to create the perfect rocked out, denim look.

  4.       Stand High in your Platforms
Chunky lug soles, platforms, and boots are the signature shoe style for the rebellious. If you require a more refined look, a sleek pointed, black stiletto can serve as your stand in.

Legends of the Fall

PhotoCredit:@digitalhustler

I wouldn't say fall is my favorite seasonal wardrobe but I would say its the easiest to style. One reason is the infinite amount of choices you receive from outerwear, accessories, an assortment of shoes, boots bags etc. The color pallet is perceivably more rich as well, in comparison to spring and summer, where lighter colors just make sense to fair the weather. Thirdly, the season is conceptually longer than the others as many of the garments you may garner for fall can also be worn during the winter and in the same manner. So how might one create a distinguished fall wardrobe that sets a precedent for the upcoming cold weather and endless holidays? The answer is simple, pick a suitable color pallet and build from there. Colors are so important in establishing the direction of your wardrobe, having a formula of colors that compliment each other, will help you streamline your looks and keep things cohesive.  Staying true to the your season of colors will enable you to shop with a clean filter  and weed out impulsive buys and purchases, that don't add value to your closet.  This season my colors will include a mix of hues that will transition throughout fall, winter, and perhaps even part of spring, and it just so happens to be spot on with Pantones selections, of colors to trend this season, well here they are:

PANTONE 18-1438 Marsala

Interesting on its own and a wonderful contrast for other hues, PANTONE 18-1438 Marsala is a winey red-brown that adds finesse and savoir faire. Rich and robust, Marsala incorporates the warmth and richness of a tastefully fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots point to a sophisticated, natural earthiness.

PANTONE 16-2215 Cashmere Rose

A play on the '60s with a twist of today, PANTONE 16-2215 Cashmere Rose is a tactile and soft pink hue that renders exactly what it promises. Cultivated in its richness, Cashmere Rose is a gentle and composed pink that is more upscale than downtown.

PANTONE 16-1144 Oak Buff

Just as the sun comes out after stormy weather to bring us cheer and a glimmer of hope, PANTONE 16-1144 Oak Buff is a mellow, comforting and warming shade that brings good feelings. Another one of nature's illustrious shades, the golden yellow Oak Buff acts to nurture and comfort.

PANTONE 19-4326 Reflecting Pond

Thoughtful, contemplative and composed, PANTONE 19-4326 Reflecting Pond is a cooling blue with a lot of depth. Conveying a message of credibility, Reflecting Pond is a serious shade that speaks to our need for stability and security.

PANTONE 17-0627 Dried Herb

An olive green shade once thought of as strictly safari or military, PANTONE 17-0627 Dried Herb has been elevated into a color we now perceive as sophisticated and chic. Closely related to nature, Dried Herb is an organic shade redolent of nature's earthy fragrances.

Senior Varsity

I have a long love affair with varsity stripe details in my clothing selections. Yes, as the ultimate sport chic, style provocateur, I relish in finding any and everything with this eye catching pattern. I have no rhyme or reason as to why but perhaps it evolves from my avid love for sports or something more subconscious.  Nonetheless I buy and wear this pattern, often with cheer. In style, with anything that you choose to do repetitiously, you instinctively become good at, so in my love for adorning varsity stripes, I've naturally become good at pairing it, in this instance with more varsity stripes. No matter if you love to wear a certain style, dont beat yourself about your obsession, just be sure to find innovative ways, to style it for the masses!

Fest Life

Living in a tri-state area can have its pros and cons. Some of the cons include the constant commuter traffic, trying to find affordable housing, among other things. However, being someone who loves to focus on the positive, I'd say the pros far outweigh the cons. For example, having such close  access to the beautiful country side, of Maryland and Virginia, is a major plus. There are things that you can do there, to escape from the hustle bustle of the city life. Recently, I went to an annually held wine festival in Mt. Airy, MD. Supporting local wineries and businesses, this festival is not only a great way to relax, imbibe, and socialize, it also generates a sizable amount of profit for its stakeholders and local community. This being my third consecutive time attending I felt compelled to write about the best way to dress for such an occasion of course. The key for me, when attending an all day outdoor festivity, ends and begins with layering. Layering affords you options and style versatility. If you get too warm you can take something off, if you get too cold you can put something on. Also if you want to alter your look for the day you can even re-style your layered garments using  different tying techniques, draping, and even the way in which you'd button a top or jacket. The conclusion with this style strategy always results in a comfortable effortless look, that will allow you to enjoy the event without any style regrets.

I Love it ALL

With the advent and power of social media, people feel more compelled than ever to enforce their likes, dislikes, and opinions on others. At times there is no regard for etiquette, I know there is a thing called freedom of speech but sometimes we can all be guilty of going to far, under the guise of first amendment rights. With many campaigns like "plusisequal", "bodypositive", "slutwalks",  headlining our timelines, I have a message of my own regarding style. "Style and Your Shape matters not Size.'" As of late, I have seen so many disparaging comments spewing against those who dare to walk their own path boldly and unapologetic. Don't let anyone fat shame you or make you feel less beautiful, because you don't meet their standards. Every time, I get dressed it's for self expression and my own personal interpretation and appreciation for fashion. I say all this because I am disheartened, by so many women and girls who believe, they have to succumb to other people's norms and they allow people's false perceptions to dictate how they live and what they wear. I have a tummy, big breast, thighs, butt, curves and I LOVE IT ALL! It's my hope that you, love yours too!😘❤👌
